Donald Fels
Visual artist Donald Fels (1946, LA) is active in the United States, Europe and Asia. He holds a BA in Art, History and Literature from Wesleyan University and a Masters with honors from City University, where he was a Presidential Scholar of the Board of Governors. He also studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and the University of Washington. Fels was a Fulbright Fellow in Italy (1985-6), a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar in India (2004-5) and in 2019-20 he was a Fulbright Scholar in Uzbekistan.
He participated in the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale, Prospect.2– the American Biennale in New Orleans in 2012, and the 2015 India Biennale, held in Kochi, Kerala. His work has been shown globally and collected worldwide.
From 1995 to 2015, Fels served as an artist on the Board of Trustees of Seattle's contemporary art museum, the Henry Art Gallery. He has written on arts and culture for The Seattle Times, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, ARCADE, crosscut, The Seattle Weekly, City Arts, The San Francisco Chronicle, LA Times, and Le Monde. He was founding President of the Board of Directors of REFLEX, the art magazine.
Currently he divides his time between his contemporary home and studio in the countryside outside Seattle and his base in the ancient city of Ostuni in Puglia.
